How to Change Favicon in Joomla

c16Hello Joomla User! Would you like to change your Favicon? I’m here to show you a simple tool you can use to create a Favicon, and how to upload it to your Joomla website. While a favicon is a very small detail, it’s one of those details that people will notice.

c6To start I’m going to introduce you to a very handy tool I discovered at Favicon (dot) cc.

Because it can be challenging to get your favicon right, when you only have 16 by 16 pixels to work with, I love using their import image feature. This way you can let their program do all the heavy lifting, and you end up with a very nice favicon.

Prior to this, I cropped down a couple photos so they were square in shape. I didn’t change their size or anything else.

When my picture is ready, I come to their website and click on “Import Image.” I then click “Choose File” so I can browse my computer to find my picture, and then click “choose,” followed by “Upload.”

The enlarged picture you see, doesn’t look all that impressive, but if you scroll down, you’ll see how this image will look as a favicon. To download it, click on “Download Favicon.” Pretty easy isn’t it?

I’m going to see how the other image looks, so I’ll repeat the process

I’ll upload the image…

See how it looks…

And download the new favicon file.

c10Once you’ve created your favicon file, I’ve found it best to keep it in the .ico format, you just need to upload it to your hosting account cPanel. If you are a Wallaby Web Design client, and you have forgotten your cPanel login info, just be sure to include that in your next support ticket, and we can send you your logins again.

c11From your cPanel, click on the File Manager, and select the “Document Root” option, and click “Go.” From here, all you need to do is click the “upload” button at the top, and click the “choose file” button to find your new favicon file. That’s it, your all done.

It will probably take several hours for your favicon to update throughout the internet, but when you come back later to view your website, you should see your new favicon.
