What is Search Engine Optimization?

To answer the question ‘what is search engine optimization?’ you’ll need to know what a search engine is. Well, Google, Yahoo, Bing, these are all search engines. They help us make sense of the internet and find what we are looking for. So, if you want your website to be searchable, and listed by these search engines, then you need to do search engine optimization. Said another way, it’s necessary to do SEO for website so it can get found on Google.

There are actually two different areas you can be found on Google. There is a free section, and a paid section. In the video we show you both. The free section is the natural or ‘organic’ section, and this is the section we are talking about when we talk about SEO. The other section is for paid ads called “Adwords” or also known as ‘pay-per-click’ ads. You can certainly get results from paid ads on Google, especially in the short term, but in the long run, you will definately see much better results, and save a lot of money if your website is ranked in the organic listings.

Another concept that is important to understand, is that the purpose of SEO is not to get your website found when people search for your business by name, because that should come up automatically. The real power of SEO comes when people find your website who don’t know about you yet, but are looking for your products and services. Also, there is no limit to the number of phrases or ‘keywords’ your website can be found under. In otherwords, the more SEO you do, the more ways people will find your website, and the more traffic you’ll get.

The next thing to understand is that you don’t just want to be on Google… but you want to be on the front page of Google. No one really goes beyond page 1 that often. Also, the listings on the top of the page get more clicks than the listings on the bottom.

There are 3 areas of SEO, and in the next 3 videos I’ll explain what each area is in detail, and how you do it. To be honest, most SEO companies are good at ‘Optimized Structure’ and ‘Link Building,’ but they completely ignore ‘viral content,’ and their link building is not targeted. If you do SEO the way Google wants you to, it’s actually a lot of fun. Register at the top of this page to get access to the other.
